Why Your Vehicle’s A/C Deserves Some Attention!

Why Your Car’s A/C is More Than Just Comfort

Your vehicle’s air conditioning system does more than cool the cabin — it also helps filter and dehumidify the air, improving comfort and visibility. But like any part of your car, it needs regular care to keep working efficiently.

Here’s what can happen when you skip A/C maintenance:

  • Weak airflow or warm air blowing from vents
  • Strange noises or musty smells
  • Reduced fuel efficiency from an overworked system
  • Potential damage to the compressor (which can get expensive!)

Signs It’s Time for a Checkup

If your A/C is taking longer to cool, feels inconsistent, or just isn’t cutting it in the afternoon heat… don’t wait. A quick check can prevent small issues from turning into big ones down the road.

We’ve Got Cool Deals Going On 😎

Right now, we’re running our 2025 Summer A/C Service Specials to help keep you and your car cool. Whether you just need a performance check or a recharge, we’ll make sure your system is summer-ready.

  • A/C & Allergies: Yep, They're Connected 🫣

Did you know a dirty or clogged cabin air filter can trigger allergies? If you're sneezing every time you turn on the vents, it could be due to pollen, dust, or mold trapped in the system. Our A/C service includes checking and replacing this filter, helping you breathe easier!

  • What’s Actually Involved in an A/C Service?

A proper air conditioning service includes more than just “topping off the freon.”

At Mattie’s, our A/C inspection typically involves:

    Checking refrigerant levels

    • Inspect A/C System (belts, hoses, and seals for wear or leaks)

    • Testing temperature output

    • Examining the compressor and condenser

    • Replacing the cabin air filter (if needed)

    • Disinfect all vents

    • Clean A/C System

Even if your A/C seems “fine,” regular checkups can catch hidden issues before they get worse, especially if your car is a few years old or has been through tough winters.

  • How Often Should You Service Your A/C?

We recommend having your A/C system checked at least once a year, ideally before summer begins. If you notice any of these red flags 🚩come in sooner:

    Air isn’t getting cold

    • A/C smells musty

    • Airflow is weak or loud

    • You hear clicking or rattling when it runs

Here’s Mattie’s back-to-school checklist to help college students (and parents!) feel confident on the road: ✅ 1. Check Your Oil & Fluids Make sure your car is topped off with clean engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and windshield washer fluid. Low or dirty fluids can lead to breakdowns—and no one needs that on move in week! ✅ 2. Inspect Tires for Wear & Pressure Properly inflated tires not only improve gas mileage but also keep you safe. Check tread depth and look for any cracks or uneven wear. Don’t forget to check the spare tire too! ✅ 3. Test Your Battery A dead battery can be a major headache on a Monday morning when your rushing to class. If your battery is over 3 years old or you’ve noticed any slow starts, it may be time to have it tested or replaced. ✅ 4. Make Sure Your Brakes Are in Top Shape Squeaky, grinding, or soft-feeling brakes? Don’t ignore the signs. Have them inspected to make sure your stopping power is strong. ✅ 5. A/C & Heat Check It may still be hot out now, but cold mornings and snowy drives are right around the corner. Make sure your heating and cooling systems are working properly before the seasons change. ✅ 6. Lights & Wipers Headlights, brake lights, and wiper blades all need to be in working condition for visibility and safety—especially during those late-night drives back from campus or rainy commutes.

Did you know most vehicles have a recirculation button next to the A/C controls — but many drivers aren’t sure when or why to use it? Here’s a quick rule of thumb: ✅ Use it in the summer ❌ Turn it off in the winter Why? The recirculation feature reuses the air already inside your vehicle instead of pulling in hot air from outside. So on scorching days if you’re not using it, your A/C is working overtime trying to cool the hot air from outside! Turning recirculate ON keeps your cabin cooler and reduces strain on your A/C system . Win-win!
